The Issue-based Coalition on Social Protection serves as a platform for exchange of information, advocacy, and policy advice as well as for building and strengthening partnerships in relation to social protection.
The IBC provides support to UN Country Teams to accelerate progress towards the SDGs that relate to social protection.
It focuses on the following areas:
Common positions and advocacy. The IBC seeks to harmonize definitions and positions on social protection across members and therefore developed common advocacy messages that can be delivered and amplified using a single voice.
Exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices. It serves to facilitate the exchange of a broad spectrum of knowledge and experience across coalition members and to distill good practices from these experiences.
Joint efforts for resource mobilization and in-country activities. As the IBC seeks to integrate various social protection interventions, members engage in joint efforts to leverage the additional resources needed to pursue projects of appropriate scale and ambition for sustainable impacts.
Concrete outputs: The IBC has developed concrete outputs, including a social protection checklist for Mainstreaming, Acceleration and Policy Support (MAPS) missions, mapping of social protection work in the region, a virtual platform for joint work and information exchange, and advocacy for the Joint Fund Window on Social Protection Floors.
